“I Pledge to make YOGA an Integral Part of my Daily Life”
An invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition, Yoga has emerged as one of the most trusted means to boost physical and mental well-being. The 5000 years old saga of Yoga has strengthened the health sciences. To keep it alive and progressive, our Yoga Gurus have made innumerable efforts. They popularized Yoga, they educated people and circulated this. The word "Yoga" is derived from the Sanskrit root yuj meaning "to join", "to yoke" or "to unite", symbolizing the unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between human and nature, and a holistic approach to health and well-being.
Due to Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi’s relentless efforts, June 21 was declared as the International Yoga Day by the United Nations General Assembly. In its resolution, the UNGA endorsed that "Yoga provides a holistic approach to health and well-being apart from striking a balance between all aspects of life. The wider dissemination of information about the benefits of practising Yoga would be beneficial for the health of the world population." This infused an era of holistic health revolution in which attention was given more to prevention rather than the cure.
Centuries ago, one of the most popular Sanskrit poets Bhartrhari, while highlighting the specialty of Yoga, said: International Yoga Day 2026 takes place on Sunday, June 21, 2026. Events across India are primarily scheduled between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM.
“The International Day of Yoga (IDY) in 2026 will mark a significant milestone — promoting yoga as a global movement that enhances physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. IDY has successfully completed 11 years, and in 2026, we are celebrating the 12th IDY in a truly global and inclusive manner. ‘Yoga Sangam’ or the main IDY event will orchestrate a synchronized mass yoga demonstration based on the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP).”
The International Yoga Day celebration organized by the Isabella Thoburn College (Professional Studies) was a meaningful and successful event. The program helped raise awareness about the benefits of yoga and inspired participants to incorporate yoga into their daily routines. The initiative reinforced the importance of maintaining a balanced and healthy lifestyle through regular yoga practice.
The event was organized under the able guidance of Officiating Principal, Dr. Deepika Delsa Dean, whose encouragement and support inspired students and faculty members to actively participate in the celebration.
The event commenced with a brief introduction to the significance of International Yoga Day and the role of yoga in maintaining overall well-being. Participants actively took part in a guided yoga session conducted by experienced instructors. Various yoga postures (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama), and meditation techniques were demonstrated and practiced.
