Village Visit- Husenmau Village “Not Me, But You.”

Isabella Thoburn College (Professional Studies), Lucknow under the National Service Scheme (NSS) program, organized a village visit to the Husenamau Village on 9th February, 2026 with an aim of promoting community, health awareness and social responsibility among students, as per the NSS motto of “Not Me, but You”

Students of BBA, MBA, and B.Tech programmes and faculty members were all involved in the active process of the programme. The objective of the visit was to communicate awareness to the rural women on key health related problems including PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease), PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), Cervical Cancer and Breast Cancer, as all these have not been addressed seriously because of lack of access to health education within the rural areas.

The students and faculty during the interaction sessions sensitized the female on the symptoms, causes, prevention and the need to detect these conditions at an early stage. The importance of menstrual and hygiene, healthy lifestyles, frequent check-ups and self-examination methods were stressed. They were done simply, in an interactive and culturally sensitive fashion in order to achieve an effective communication and participation.

Sanitary pads were also provided to the women of the village at the end of the programme. The students were carrying these sanitary pads on their own accord to encourage hygienic practices of menstruation and the use of safe menstrual protection and the students were encouraged to use safe menstrual protection to help tackle the menstrual health awareness and to break the social taboos associated with menstruation.

The visit to the village was a valuable learning process to the students and a worthwhile outreach program to the community. The programme was able to capture the spirit of NSS in the sense that it combined education and service and helped to develop a feeling of empathy, leadership, and social commitment in the students.
