Vinita Wanchoo Lecture Series

“We receive to give” has been the motto of Isabella Thoburn College and its alumnae have taken the baton forward. Striving towards its goal of women empowerment, Isabella Thoburn College took another step by organizing a first of its kind lecture series- the Vinita Wanchoo Lecture Series- named after one of its teacher Ms Vinita Wanchoo and instituted by the K.C. Mahindra Education Trust in accordance with the will of Mrs. Indira Mahindra an alumnae of Isabella Thoburn College and a very close friend of Ms Vinita Wanchoo.

The distinguished guest present on the occasion were Mrs Anuja Sharma, daughter of Mrs Indira Mahindra, Ms. Kanchan Pamnani, advocate, Sheetal Mehta, CSR Head and Keynote speaker Prof. Maitrayee Chaudhury, JNU and Mrs P. Revis, Dr. E.S. Charles and Dr. V. Prakash.

The programme, which was held in the college auditorium, commenced with an invocation by the college choir followed by the lighting of the traditional college lamp by the distinguished guests present on the dais.

The Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) V. Prakash extended a warm welcome to the guests and invited Ms P. Revis, a former President and alumna of the college. She Introduce Ms. Vinita Wanchoo to the audience. This was followed by an invitation to Mrs. Anuja Sharma, daughter of late Mrs. Indira Mahindra, also alumnae of the college to share her thoughts and vision about this lecture series. Ms. Sharma highlighted the warm bond of friendship between her mother and Ms. Vinita Wanchoo, which inspired the institution, setting up of this lecture series.

This was followed by a keynote address by Prof. Maitrayee Chaudhuri, Centre for the Study of Social Systems / School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Professor Maitrayee Chaudhuri presented a key note address entitled “The Indian women’s movement and its Quest for a Just society: Lessons from the Past and challenges of the Future” in which she highlighted the perpetual struggle of women which was inextricably linked to India’s freedom movement.

She highlighted that broad vision should include both warmth and conflicts between women as citizens and rights of communities and cultures.

The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks by the President Dr. (Mrs.) E.S. Charles.
