Two days National Seminar Organized by Post Graduate Department of Economics Sponsored by National Commission For Women

The Post Graduate Department of Economics, Isabella Thoburn College Organized a Two Days National Seminar on “Securing Land Rights for Women and Gender Equality –Issues and Challenges” on 29th & 30Th October 2014.The Seminar was sponsored by National Commission for Women (NCW), New Delhi.

The seminar was inaugurated by the chief guest Dr. Shamina Shafiq, Member, National Commission for Women. (NCW) .The programme started with a devotional service and lighting of the lamp followed by felicitation of the chief guest, eminent speakers by the President Dr.(Mrs.).E.S.Charles and Principal Dr.(Mrs.) V.Prakash of the Isabella Thoburn College.

The theme of the seminar was introduced by the seminar coordinator Dr. (Mrs.) Anupma Srivastava. The honorable chief guest Dr. Shamina Shafiq Member of National Commission for Women (NCW) also emphasized important policy issues related to women and gender rights. The key note address was delivered by Prof Kapil Kumar followed by the address of Guest of Honor Professor Khan Masood Ahmad vice chancellor Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti Urdu Arabic Farsi University.

The inauguration ceremony was followed by two Technical sessions, on first day of the seminar Forms of Gender Inequalities-A Broader Outlook.

Second technical session was started by an introduction of the panel by Mrs. Preeti Sharma, theme for the session being-Policies/ Institutional Mechanism Enforcing or Preventing Women Land Rights.

Day 2-30th october-2014

The second day began with prayer service which was followed by two technical sessions. The sub theme” of session-1 was “Role of the civil society and Gender Rights”

The theme for the fourth session was “Gender and Food Security”

The Valedictory Ceremony commenced with welcoming of the Chief Guest Professor Surender Kumar Director, GIRI Institute of Development followed by the summation of the two days report by Ms.Amita Marwha, Assistant cordinator of the seminar.certificates were given to participants and volunteers by the Chief Guest.
