Isabella Thoburn College's library stands as a venerable institution, tracing its roots back to its establishment in 1914. Over the years, it has evolved into the esteemed Sarah Chakko Memorial Library, a symbol of academic excellence and intellectual enrichment. This architectural marvel, constructed in 1959 and named after the beloved former Principal, Miss Sarah Chakko, commands attention with its imposing crescent shape and double-storied structure. Within its walls lies a vast reservoir of knowledge, comprising approximately 57,000 volumes meticulously organized under the open shelf system. Here, students have the privilege of exploring diverse subjects and literary works at their own pace, fostering a culture of independent learning and exploration. The library's commitment to accessibility and discovery extends further with departmental libraries catering to specialized academic pursuits, ensuring that students have access to resources tailored to their fields of study.
The Janet Bonarji Library, boasting over 2,500 volumes, is a haven for cultural exploration and intellectual engagement. Its collection, including rare art objects from various countries and periods, offers students a glimpse into the world's renowned galleries and museums. The library's basement houses an Exhibition Room for showcasing books and hosting library-related events. A comprehensive Library Orientation Programme introduces new students to its resources, emphasizing the use of the Card Catalogue, Reserve Shelf, Book Bank, and Reference Books. Additionally, a Trust Fund established in 1991 in memory of alumna Mrs. Bimla Nigam enables annual book purchases in specific disciplines. Every student is required to become a library member, facilitated by a membership card and passport-sized photographs. Internet services further enhance access to resources. Membership cards are non-transferable, and students must return them at the end of the academic year to obtain a No-Dues Certificate.
The library at the college offers internet services and has a Computer Gallery on the first floor for accessing digital information.
