Historical background

Isabella Thoburn Intimidate College is a unit of Isabella Thoburn College society. It was founded in 1886 by Miss Isabella Thoburn. A one room house in a noisy Aminabad bazar was Miss Thoburn’s starting place on April 18, 1870 with six girls only. She rightly said that, “We began at sunrise with the hope of the morning our hearts, but how little we dreamed of the future of this school.” It was later shifted to Dr. Waugh’s bunglow in one room and then in rented house.

A year later they purchased Lal Bagh, the house of the Last Nawabs of Oudh treasurer with too rupees each in silver in fourteen bags which finally shifted to the present site. In 1886 this college was affiliate to Calcutta College.

The Isabella Thoburn Intermediate College is the first Girls Intermediate Christian College in India.
